Six individuals dressed in police uniforms raided the home of Sanjeev Gupta, alias Bauwa on Monday morning around 6:30 am, a teacher residing in Telwa Bazar within the Simultala police station area. The intruders decamped with jewelry worth lakhs stored in an almirah. After the incident, all the suspects fled the scene.
The victim's family reported that the criminals claimed to be personnel from the Chakai police station and were carrying weapons and batons. According to Sanjeev Gupta, the perpetrators arrived in a Scorpio vehicle. The incident occurred while he was opening the door to send his child to school. The armed intruders forced their way inside, claiming to be police officers in possession of a search warrant to intimidate the family.
Upon entering, the criminals seized the keys to the almirah, opened it, and stole jewelry belonging to Gupta's wife, daughter, mother, and sister, estimated to be worth Rs 20 to Rs 25 lakhs. Before leaving, they told the family to report to the Chakai police station, a tactic intended to confuse the family and prevent immediate resistance.
Following the incident, the victim contacted the Chakai police, who clarified that no raids had been conducted in the last two days. This confirmed that the criminals had executed the robbery under the guise of police officers. The process of filing a formal written complaint was underway at the time of reporting.
According to locals, the victim is currently employed as a government teacher in Banka district and is also involved in the money-lending business. The daylight robbery by men in police uniforms has created a stir in the entire area. Simultala Station House Officer (SHO) Dhananjay Kumar stated that the crime was committed by misusing police uniforms. A thorough investigation is underway, and police are scanning CCTV footage from the area to gather clues about the suspects.
