The Durgawati Reservoir, located near Badalgarh in Chenari block, initially constructed for irrigating fields in villages bordering the Kaimur hills, is rapidly developing into a popular adventure and eco-tourism destination.
Over 100,000 tourists visit the reservoir annually, drawn by its stunning natural beauty, which has earned comparisons to international tourist spots. Thanks to the combined efforts of the district administration, forest and environment department, and the tourism department, visitors can now enjoy activities like hot air ballooning and river safaris.
According to DDC Vijay Kumar Pandey, the reservoir's transformation into an adventure and eco-tourism hub is being driven by the efforts of DM Udita Singh. The focus is on developing the area for tourism and adventure sports.
Plans include jeep riding, dedicated cycling and electric scooter tracks for eco-friendly tourism, and the development of cafeterias and rest areas on small islands within the reservoir. To further promote eco-tourism, activities such as boating, kayaking, and aqua parasailing will soon be introduced.
The reservoir's scenic beauty, captivating sunsets, and a historic Shiva temple add to its allure. Concerted efforts are underway to establish Durgawati Reservoir as a major tourist destination not only in Bihar but also nationally.
The construction of a boat house camp, Karamchat Dam eco-tourism, and adventure hub, with a budget of Rs 4973.33 lakh, has commenced. Two months ago, the Chief Minister inaugurated hot air ballooning facilities. Adventure sports such as ziplining, off-road jeep riding, cycling, and aqua parasailing are also being promoted.
