With the expansion of roads in Bihar’s Siwan, the number of vehicles is rapidly increasing. According to data from the District Transport Department, the highest increase has been observed in the number of two-wheelers.
At the same time, the rise in vehicles has also led to higher revenue for the Transport Department. In the financial year 2024-25, a total of 41,758 vehicles have been registered, with approximately 35,000 bikes and scooters among them.
Additionally, 2,015 e-rickshaws, 1,473 motor cars, 1,244 agricultural tractors, 717 mopeds, 499 passenger three-wheelers, and 376 cargo vehicles have been registered. Other registrations include 24 motorised cycles (over 25 CC), 17 motorcycles with sidecars, 25 construction equipment vehicles, six harvesters, one earth-moving equipment, 64 e-rickshaws with carts (goods), 95 commercial tractors, 35 maxi cabs, 16 motor cabs, 57 buses, two articulated vehicles, three omni buses, 29 commercial trailers, and one ambulance.
The increasing number of e-rickshaws has become a significant source of self-employment in the district, contributing to their growing presence on roads, particularly between cities and rural areas. E-rickshaws are also proving to be a helpful means of transportation for people.
Officials note that the number of vehicle registrations has been rising steadily each year. In 2024-25, the department has already registered 41,758 vehicles, resulting in revenue of over 3.19 crore. With this upward trend in vehicle registrations, the department aims to further increase its revenue target for the current financial year, according to Ravi Ranjan, In-charge District Transport Officer, Siwan.
