Bihar Assembly Elections 2025: With political temperatures rising ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, popular singer Maithili Thakur has officially joined the BJP. Bihar BJP President Dilip Jaiswal formally welcomed her into the Party.

It has been confirmed that Maithili Thakur will contest the upcoming election from the Alinagar constituency in Darbhanga district.

Born on July 25, 2000, in Madhubani, Bihar, Maithili has has already expressed her willingness to contest the state polls after meeting with senior BJP leaders. 

“It would be a different journey for me and I am ready for it,” the 25-year-old singer recently told media persons. 

Who Is Maithili Thakur?

Maithili Thakur is known and loved as one of the most popular folk singers in India. A native of Madhubani, Thakur moved to Najafgarh, Delhi, where they faced financial struggles due to their father’s unemployment. For Thakur, her father, Ramesh Thakur, is not only her mentor but also her music teacher.

Maithili’s passion for music was encouraged from a young age. She received her musical training from both her father and grandfather, specialising in Indian classical and Maithili folk music.

During her journey, Thakur faced several rejections from reality shows such as Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs and Indian Idol Junior. However, her determination paid off when she became the first runner-up on the reality show Rising Star in 2017, while she was still in school.

Understanding its reach, Thakur started uploading videos of her performances on Facebook and YouTube, where her soulful voice and deep understanding of folk traditions quickly gained her millions of followers. Later, Thakur was honoured as the State Icon of Bihar by the Election Commission of India.
