Bihar Polls 2025: Even after the completion of the nomination process for the first phase of voting, the Mahagathbandhan is yet to finalise seat distribution among its constituent parties, with tensions running high and speculation of a potential split.

The Rashtriya Lok Janata Party has already parted ways from the alliance, while the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha has announced its decision to contest six seats. If JMM sticks to its claim, over 20 seats may see contests between Mahagathbandhan's constituent parties rather than against the NDA.

Meanwhile, internal dissatisfaction within the Congress is surfacing, with two former MLAs, Gajanand Shahi and Bunty Chaudhary, accusing the Bihar Congress in-charge, Allabaru, of recommending candidates and not maintaining transparency with the high command.

Bihar Polls 2025: Friction Between Congress And CPI

The dispute in the Mahagathbandhan began after the Congress declared its candidate for the Bachhwara assembly constituency in Begusarai. In the 2024 elections, the CPI had secured the second position in this seat, while the Congress had finished third. Despite this, the Congress announced its candidacy for the same seat for the incumbent MLA, Garib Das. The CPI swiftly responded by fielding its candidate from Rajapakar, a seat held by the Congress.

The CPI further announced candidates for Rosera and Biharsharif constituencies, where the Congress had previously performed well. The RJD also started staking claims to seats initially reserved for the Congress, fielding candidates in Warisaliganj, Vaishali, and Lalganj.

Moreover, the RJD is eyeing the Sikandra constituency, which is embroiled in internal conflicts within the Congress. Former Assembly Speaker Uday Narayan Chaudhary is likely to be the RJD candidate from Sikandra. The controversy has also affected Congress state president Rajesh Kumar's constituency, Kutumba, where former minister Suresh Paswan might be fielded by the RJD.
