Bihar Election 2025: In a major update regarding the Bihar Assembly election, Asaduddin Owaisi-led AIMIM is considering contesting 100 seats, five times the previous elections. AIMIM state chief Akhtarul Iman stated that the party is aiming to build a "third alternative" in Bihar by contesting more seats. Imam further stated that no party can claim that the AIMIM caused the division of secular votes, as the party approached Bihar's former Chief Minister Lalu Yadav's RJD for an alliance; however, the Mahagathbandhan did not accept the proposal of Owaisi's party. Earlier last week, Owaisi stated that the party will contest four seats in Mithilanchal in an attempt to expand its horizon.
Akhtarul Iman stated that both the major alliances, the ruling NDA and the opposition Mahagathbandhan, will be forced to realised AIMIM's presence in the state. "Our plan is to contest 100 seats. Both the NDA and the 'Mahagathbandhan' will be forced to realise our presence," Imam told PTI-Bhasha. He further stated that the party has rights to expand in the state as RJD denied its proposal, seeking an alliance in the Seemanchal region.
"It is now common knowledge that I wrote to (RJD president) Lalu Prasad and Tejashwi Yadav, expressing willingness for a tie-up. But no response came," Imam stated. "Now, we must do all that we can to expand our footprints. Yes, we are also in talks with like-minded parties to explore the possibility of a third front. It will all be clear in a few days," the AIMIM leader added.
Earlier last week, the party's chief, Owaisi, stated that apart from Seemanchal, AIMIM will also contest four seats in the Mithilanchal region. He also stated that Mahagathbandhan will not be able to stop NDA from repeating the government due to Tejashwi Yadav's arrogance. The election in Bihar is set to be conducted in two phases on November 6 and 11, while the results will be announced on November 14.
