Bihar Elections: In a significant development ahead of the Bihar assembly elections, former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Convenor Arvind Kejriwal announced that his party will contest the polls independently. Addressing a press conference in Delhi on Thursday, Kejriwal clarified that AAP has no alliance with the Congress party for the assembly elections.
The AAP leader emphasised that the INDIA alliance was specifically for the Lok Sabha elections and does not extend to the assembly polls.

“INDIA bloc was only for Lok Sabha polls. There's no alliance with the Congress now. If there was an alliance then why did Congress contest in Visavadar bypolls. They came to defeat us. The BJP sent Congress to defeat us and cut the votes,” Kejriwal said.

Bihar is likely to undergo assembly elections later this year, in November 2025. Voters will elect assembly representatives across 243 constituencies. In the last assembly polls, held in October-November 2020, RJD came out as the single largest party.

After the elections, the incumbent Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was elected as the leader of the National Democratic Alliance in Bihar and was sworn in again as Chief Minister. Later in 2022, Kumar parted ways and formed a Mahagathbandhan government with the RJD. However, the equation did not work longer as Nitish once again snapped ties with RJD and formed a government with the BJP-led NDA.
