Three major infrastructure projects for Bihar, involving the construction of two national highways and a mega bridge, have been placed before the Union Cabinet for approval. With an estimated combined cost of around Rs 10,000 crore, the projects will move into the execution phase once the Cabinet gives its nod. All three proposals have already received clearance from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).

The most significant among them is the proposed Patjirwa bridge over the Gandak river, to be built between Manuapul in Bettiah (Bihar) and Tiwari Patti Sevarahi in Uttar Pradesh. Spanning nearly 12 km, the bridge will be among the longest in the country. Once completed, it will reduce the distance between Bihar and Uttar Pradesh by about 35 km, offering direct and faster connectivity between the two states. Land acquisition for the project has already begun following MoRTH approval.

The second project awaiting Cabinet clearance is the four-laning of the Purnia-Khagaria road. Stretching across 143 km, the project is estimated to cost Rs 3,975 crore. The upgraded highway is expected to significantly cut travel time between Patna and Khagaria and improve regional connectivity in eastern Bihar.

The third proposal involves the four-laning of the Muzaffarpur-Sitamarhi-Sonbarsa road, which currently operates as a two-lane highway. The 144-km-long project, costing around Rs 2,400 crore, will reduce travel time to Nepal by nearly two hours once completed, strengthening cross-border connectivity and trade.

Officials said the projects are expected to give a major boost to connectivity, trade, and economic development in Bihar and neighbouring regions, while also improving access to Uttar Pradesh and Nepal.
