In a move to combat the evolving landscape of cybercrime, the Bihar government is ramping up efforts to enhance its cyber forensic capabilities. Recognising the critical role of digital evidence in modern investigations, the state is working swiftly to establish cyber forensic laboratories in Patna and Rajgir in collaboration with the National Forensic Sciences Laboratory (NFSL).
The Home Department has directed officials to accelerate the establishment of these labs, emphasising regular reviews and timely completion. These upcoming facilities are expected to be equipped with advanced technologies for digital forensics, including mobile data analysis, network tracing, data recovery, and examination of digital evidence.
In addition, preparations are underway to set up a transit campus of the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) in Patna. Hindi Bhawan has been identified as the location for this interim campus. The Home Department has instructed concerned officials to begin work within a set timeframe and ensure close monitoring of progress.
Meanwhile, the department is also tightening oversight of long-pending forensic investigations. A directive has been issued to review all such cases, compile detailed reports, and hold accountable any officials who delay or fail to provide necessary information.
