The Bihar government has taken a landmark step to provide pay protection to 2,45,000 teachers across the state, a move expected to strengthen their financial security and enhance the quality of education.
The order, issued by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s government, covers teachers who have passed the competency test as well as newly appointed headteachers. Previously, these teachers received lower salaries according to local body pay scales, which did not reflect their contributions. Under the new pay protection scheme, their salaries will be aligned with state government pay scales, recognising their dedication and service.
Officials say the salary increase and job security will boost teachers’ morale, encouraging them to work with greater diligence, ultimately benefiting students.
In addition to the pay protection scheme, the Bihar government has also increased the honorarium for school support staff, including cooks, night guards, and physical education instructors, doubling their previous allowances.
Education officials noted that these measures demonstrate the state government’s commitment to educational reform and development, aiming to make Bihar a leading state in the field of education.
