Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary on Wednesday announced a significant hike in the salary for 94,664 ASHA workers and 5,203 Mamta workers across Bihar. The government has also approved the appointment of 26,325 additional ASHA workers in both rural and urban areas.
The revised honorarium for ASHA workers has been increased from Rs 1,000 to Rs 3,000 per month, while Mamta workers will now receive Rs 600 per delivery as an incentive, up from Rs 300. Chaudhary said the move aims to recognise the crucial role of these workers in implementing vaccination drives, promoting institutional deliveries, and executing other ground-level health programs in villages.

He added that the decision, taken under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, will boost morale and improve healthcare delivery in rural areas.
Highlighting the government’s broader focus on social welfare, Chaudhary also referred to the formation of the Safai Aayog (Sanitation Commission) on July 27, aimed at addressing the issues faced by over four lakh sanitation workers employed across 263 municipal bodies in the state.
He further noted that while Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiatives—such as free ration, Ujjwala gas connections, pucca houses, toilets, Ayushman cards, and Jan Dhan accounts—helped lift crores out of poverty, Bihar’s state government has complemented these efforts by ensuring social security for weaker sections.
