In a move to ensure transparency and ease of access, the Bihar government has introduced a fully digital system for eligible residents to apply for new ration cards from the comfort of their homes. The Department of Food and Consumer Protection has issued instructions to all districts to implement the new system effectively.

Eligible individuals without a ration card can now apply online through the official portal rconline.bihar.gov.in. The process begins with registration via the ‘Meri Pehchan’ portal, where users must sign up as a new user. Registration requires filling in basic details and verifying the mobile number through a one-time password (OTP).

Once registered, applicants can log in using their new ID and password to complete the application form. During the process, they must provide details of all family members and upload essential documents, including:

-Aadhaar card

-Bank passbook

-Residence certificate

-Family photograph

-Applicant’s signature photo

If applicable: self-attested copy of disability, income, or caste certificate

After submission, applicants will receive a reference number via SMS, which can be used to track the status of their application online.

Officials stated that the initiative aims to make the ration card application process more efficient, transparent, and accessible to every eligible household in the state.
