The Municipal Corporation has granted permission to M/s Lucknow Swachhata Abhiyan for mechanical road sweeping across a 528-kilometre stretch of main roads in the city. The work order was issued on Wednesday, and the company is set to begin operations on Thursday, July 3.

The company, which is already responsible for door-to-door garbage collection in five municipal wards, will now handle mechanical sweeping in zones one, three, four, six, and seven. In addition to deploying mechanical sweepers, the company is also required to station sanitation workers at every kilometre to collect accumulated waste.

Previously, the corporation had entered into a contract with the same company for sweeping over 3,500 kilometres of road. However, payment disputes arose, with the corporation stating that no formal work order had been issued at that time, and thus it would not release any payment. This disagreement remains unresolved.

Additional Municipal Commissioner Dr Arvind Rao confirmed the new agreement, stating, "Permission has been given to M/s Lucknow Swachhata Abhiyan for mechanical sweeping of 528 km of roads. The company will also deploy workers to collect garbage at every kilometre."

Environmental Engineer Sanjeev Pradhan added that the company will begin work in designated main roads from July 3, covering areas including Gomti Nagar, 1090 Square, Burlington Square, Bhaisakund Road, Kisan Path, Janeshwar Mishra Park Road, Polytechnic Square, Urdu Academy Road, Mithai Wala Square, Vishal Khand, Nawab Purwa Square, Lohia Hospital, Indira Canal, SRS Mall, Munshi Pulia, Lekhraj Square, Nilgiri Square, Amrapali Square, Bhootnath Temple, Matiyari Square, Teethi Pulia, Mama Square, Sarvodaya Nagar, Shadab Colony, Jagrani Hospital Road, Lucknow University Road, Kursi Road, Jankipuram Police Station, Madiaon Police Station, IT Square, Kapurthala Square, Daliganj, Bulaki Adda, Lemon Park, Dubagga Tiraha, Buddheshwar Bridge, Sitapur Bypass, and Bawali Police Chowki.
