In a major crackdown on corruption, Bihar's vigilance and economic offence units carried out raids and arrests across the state on Thursday, unearthing crores worth of disproportionate assets and bribe rackets involving senior government officials.

The Special Surveillance Unit (SVU) raided the residences of CID (Prohibition) DSP Abhay Prasad Yadav in Patna and Khagaria, uncovering illegally acquired assets worth over Rs 2.12 crore, far exceeding his known income.

Investigations revealed that despite earning Rs 1.99 crore in salary since joining service in 1994, he possesses assets that are 50.42 per cent disproportionate to his legitimate income.

Seized items include:

-Nine land sale deeds

-25+ Kisan Vikas Patras

-20+ bank accounts

-A three-storey house with 15 rooms on 5 acres

-Gold and jewellery worth Rs 12 lakh

-Rs 1 lakh in cash

The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) raided properties of Pramod Kumar, Executive Engineer at the Bihar State Educational Infrastructure Development Corporation (BSEIDC), in Patna, Sitamarhi, and Saharsa.

Findings indicate assets 309 per cent above his legal income, including:

-Land worth Rs 3.54 crore, spread across Bihar, Jharkhand, and bordering states

-Rs 18.84 lakh in bank accounts

-Rs 5.29 lakh in cash

-A vehicle worth Rs 11 lakh

-Multiple benami properties under investigation

Kumar, currently posted in Saharsa, was absent during the raids and is reportedly absconding. An FIR has been filed, and arrest procedures are underway.

The SVU arrested Ashok Kumar Verma, Head Clerk in the Patna District Education Office, for accepting a Rs 1 lakh bribe.

Verma had allegedly demanded money from a complainant in exchange for approving his wife’s maternity leave.

After verification of the complaint, a trap was laid, and Verma was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe. He is currently being interrogated and will be produced in a special court.

In Kishanganj, the Vigilance Investigation Bureau arrested Amin Niranjan Prasad from Daula Panchayat for demanding a Rs 1 lakh bribe in return for processing land compensation for dam construction.

The complaint was filed by Jameel Akhtar, who stated that Amin refused to release compensation without a bribe. Prasad was arrested at the Kishanganj bus stand while accepting the amount and will be presented in a special vigilance court.
