The Bihar government is preparing to adopt international standards for youth skill development by implementing the World Skill Centre model in the state. The initiative aims to equip young people with modern and future-ready skills aligned with global job market requirements.
Under the proposed plan, training will be provided in emerging sectors such as artificial intelligence, drone technology, electric vehicles and 3D printing. The focus will be on delivering advanced, industry-relevant training to enhance employability. The Labour Resources Department has shown keen interest in the World Skill Centre established in Bhubaneswar and plans to use its standards as a benchmark for skill development initiatives in Bihar.

With the formation of the Youth Employment and Skills Department, responsibilities related to youth skill development have now been entrusted to the newly created department. Efforts are underway to provide world-class training through the Bihar Skill Development Mission by establishing a skill development system based on international standards.
According to officials, the implementation of the World Skill Centre model will help make Bihar’s youth globally competitive. Deepak Anand, Secretary of the Labour Resources Department, said the initiative would also offer meritorious students opportunities to participate in international student exchange programmes each year. Under these programmes, selected youth will receive global-level vocational training and industry exposure, enabling them to meet international standards.
The government’s action plan includes provisions for finishing school training for ITI and diploma holders, along with Training of Trainers (ToT) programmes for instructors engaged in skill development.

Three major academic faculties are proposed under the new framework. The engineering faculty will focus on mechatronics, electrical trades, air conditioning and refrigeration, and precision engineering. The School of Services will offer training in areas such as culinary arts, beauty and wellness, digital media and hair fashion. In addition, an academy faculty will be dedicated to staff capacity building, including training in pedagogy, assessment methods and vocational education.
A Learning Resource Centre is also planned to support capacity building for students undergoing skill development. The centre will provide mandatory life skills and employability training and will feature a modern, technology-enabled library with access to e-resources and virtual reality facilities.
