The gazetteers of seven districts in the Purnia and Saharsa divisions of Bihar (Purnia, Katihar, Kishanganj, Araria, Saharsa, Supaul, and Madhepura) will be published and reprinted. This decision was taken at a meeting of the State Level Gazetteer Draft Publication Committee.
The meeting was chaired by Deepak Kumar Singh, Additional Chief Secretary, Revenue and Land Reforms Department, who is also the chairman of the committee. The Institute for Human Development, New Delhi, has been given the responsibility of publishing and reprinting the manuscripts, with a deadline of one year.

The Additional Chief Secretary stated that gazetteers are comprehensive repositories of information about a district, including its geography, history, demography, culture, traditions, social practices, economy, and administration.
Department Secretary, Jai Singh, noted that the gazetteers in the state were prepared in the 1960s and need updating. Previously, they primarily focused on history and culture. Now, they need to integrate data and information that are currently available. Several experts and officials, including Prof Alakh Narayan Sharma from the Institute for Human Development, and Dr Sunil Kumar Singh, also shared their views.
