The Buddha Samyak Darshan Museum cum Smriti Stupa, being developed on a sprawling 72-acre plot in Vaishali—revered as the land of Lord Buddha—is nearing completion and is likely to be inaugurated by the end of this month. Officials say the site will soon emerge as a significant global landmark in Buddhist tourism.

On Thursday, Kumar Ravi, Secretary of the Building Construction Department, conducted an on-site inspection of the museum complex and reviewed preparations. He was accompanied by the Secretary of the Art, Culture and Youth Department, Pranav Kumar, along with other officials and engineers.

The Rs 550.48 crore project has been constructed entirely using sandstone sourced from Vanshi Paharpur in Rajasthan. A total of 42,373 specially crafted stones have been used in building the stupa, which stands 35.10 meters tall and has been made earthquake-resistant to ensure long-term structural safety. The grand statue of Lord Buddha, installed on the ground floor, has been sculpted by artisans from Odisha.

Significantly, the bone relic of Lord Buddha—discovered during archaeological excavations between 1958 and 1962 at King Vishal’s Fort—will be enshrined on the first floor of the stupa. The museum will feature exhibits highlighting major events from Lord Buddha's life and milestones in the history of Buddhism across two dedicated museum buildings.

Designed to be eco-friendly and self-sustained, the complex will run on a 500 kW solar power system. Additional amenities for visitors include a meditation centre, library, visitor centre, amphitheatre, guest house, cafeteria, ticket counters, ample parking space, and well-planned service zones.

A beautifully landscaped lily pond has been constructed around the stupa, along with extensive plantation drives to enhance the green cover. To support the infrastructure, a sewage treatment plant and water treatment facility have also been installed.
