The 100-day public participation campaign, which began on December 7, 2024 for the elimination of tuberculosis in Bihar’s Bhojpur district, has successfully concluded. During this period, the Tuberculosis Department team achieved remarkable results by surpassing the screening target, conducting 1.55 lakh screenings against the initial goal of 1.28 lakh. Notably, the Sahar block recorded the highest screening percentage at 269 per cent Across the district, 1,609 TB patients were identified, and their treatment has already commenced.
This campaign focused on ensuring the identification, diagnosis, and treatment of TB patients across all health institutions in the district. Additionally, awareness programs were organised for the general public, involving risk population motivation strategies and participation from influential persons, religious leaders, and public representatives. Several blocks actively ran this program with support from elected officials.
According to District Tuberculosis Officer Dr A Ahmed, the primary objective of this campaign was to detect TB patients, reduce the mortality rate caused by tuberculosis, and intensify efforts to prevent infection.
The block-wise screening achievements highlight the campaign’s success: Agiaon achieved 112 per cent of its target with 5,030 screenings, Charpokhari reached 105 per cent with 4,736 screenings, Koilwar accomplished 104 per cent with 8,808 screenings, and Piro met 102 per cent with 11,637 screenings. Meanwhile, Bihiya completed 90 per cent of its target (6,110 screenings), Ara reached 85 per cent (23,274 screenings), Shahpur and Gadhani both recorded 85 per cent and 81 per cent of their targets, respectively.
Overall, the district-wide screening effort resulted in a 122 per cent achievement rate, significantly contributing to TB elimination efforts. The campaign’s success reinforces the importance of community involvement, early detection, and timely treatment in combating tuberculosis.
