The Nitish Kumar government has increased financial assistance under the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana (MMRY) from Rs 10,000 to Rs 2 lakh to empower and make the women of the state self-reliant. The decision was announced after a cabinet meeting, and the details were then shared through social media. The enhanced assistance will be provided to the women in a phase-by-phase manner.
Why Is The Mukhya Mantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana Important?
The main objective of the MMRY is to provide financial assistance to the women of the state for self-employment, so that one woman from each family can establish herself as an entrepreneur. In Phase I of the scheme, each woman was provided with an amount of Rs 10,000. So far, the amount has been transferred to the accounts of 1 crore 56 lakh beneficiaries through DBT. The Chief Minister further assured that the remaining applicants in rural and urban areas will also get the amount credited in their accounts.
An additional financial assistance of up to Rs 2 lakh will be extended after assessing the progress of the business six months after it begins. “The process has been initiated to provide selected beneficiaries with additional financial support of up to Rs 2 lakh. The amount will be disbursed in phases, subject to proper utilisation of the earlier assistance for employment,” the Chief Minister said.
The government has also directed departments to ensure proper marketing arrangements for products made by all the beneficiaries. “They have been instructed to link beneficiaries with government programmes such as uniform manufacturing, Sudha sales centres and Didi Ki Rasoi,” the Chief Minister added.
