In a major public health initiative to prevent cervical cancer, the Bihar government will launch an HPV vaccination campaign targeting girls aged 9 to 14 studying in all government and private schools and madrasas across the state.
According to fresh directives issued on Friday by the Director of Primary Education, Sahila, the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine will be administered on school premises, with one nodal teacher or staff member nominated in each institution to coordinate the effort.
The vaccination campaign will be conducted in collaboration with the Health Department and aims to ensure universal immunisation of girls in the specified age group. District Education Officers (DEOs) have been instructed to coordinate with health officials and appoint nodal staff in every school and madrasa to facilitate the smooth conduct of the campaign.
School principals and administrators—both government and private—have been asked to support and sensitise students and parents about the importance of the HPV vaccine. The move is part of a wider public health goal to eliminate cervical cancer risks through early preventive care.
Vaccination sessions will be organised on-site in schools and madrasas, ensuring easy access and high coverage of eligible students.
