Bihar: In a disturbing case from Bihar’s Jehanabad district, a young girl was brutally murdered by her own brother for being in a relationship with a boy from a different caste. The incident, which has shaken the local community, is being investigated as a case of honour killing.
On 10th March, police found the body of an unidentified young woman on the Patna-Gaya railway line near Ner Halt. The body was sent for postmortem, and to help with identification, the police circulated her photo on social media. A few days later, the girl was identified as 19-year-old Aarti Kumari, daughter of Vinay Yadav from Dhawal Vigaha village under Hulasganj police station.
Victim Identified Days After Body Found Near Railway Tracks
According to Jagran.com, Aarti was in a relationship with Kaju Kumar, son of Pancham Kumar, from Wazirganj village in Gaya district. She had left her home on 10th March and went to her boyfriend’s house. His family was shocked by her sudden arrival and quickly informed Aarti’s family after learning who she was.
Soon after, her brothers- Dharmendra Yadav, Gautam Kumar, and Chandrakant Kumar went to Wazirganj by car. In front of the local villagers, they signed a written agreement (called a "panchanama") stating they would take Aarti home safely. However, what followed was a cold-blooded plan.
Thrown Under Moving Train
Instead of taking her home, the three brothers stopped near Ner Halt while returning and allegedly threw Aarti in front of a moving train, killing her on the spot. They then fled the scene and returned to their village, trying to act as if nothing had happened.
Initially, the case was filed as an unidentified death. But once Aarti’s boyfriend’s family saw the photo online, they contacted the police and revealed the entire story, including the written agreement that promised her safety.
The police called the girl’s family, questioned them, and handed over the body after confirmation. Under the direction of SP Arvind Pratap Singh, a technical investigation was launched.
As the case turned out to be an honour killing, the police arrested the brother Dharmendra Yadav from Fatuha in Patna district. The officer in charge of Makhdumpur police station confirmed his arrest. The other accused, Gautam Kumar and Chandrakant Kumar, will also be arrested soon. Police are also investigating the possible involvement of the girl’s father in the murder.
