The construction of the grand Virat Ramayan Mandir, being built by the Mahavir Mandir Trust Patna, is underway at a swift pace on the Chakia-Kesaria road in East Champaran. A major attraction at the temple will be a 33-foot-tall, 210-metric-ton Shivling, currently being crafted in Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu. The Shivling is near completion and is expected to be installed at the site within the next two months.

The Virat Ramayan Mandir is poised to become one of the largest temples in India. Built on 140 acres along the Ram-Janaki Marg connecting Ayodhya to Janakpur, the temple will be 1080 feet long and 540 feet wide, featuring 12 shikharas (spires) and 22 subsidiary temples. The tallest shikhara will rise to 270 feet, with others measuring between 90 and 180 feet.

Key construction milestones have already been achieved, including the Singh Dwar (main gate), Ganesh Sthal, Nandi statue, foundation (piling) of the sanctum sanctorum, and the main entrance. According to Sayan Kunal, trustee of the Bihar State Religious Trust Board and son of the late Acharya Kishore Kunal, every effort is being made to accelerate the temple's completion.

The foundation stone for the temple was laid on 20 June 2023. As of now, nearly 90 per cent of the foundation piling is complete, and sand filling is currently in progress. Ranjit Singh Rawat, GM of the executing agency Suntech Construction, said that all construction materials are being rigorously lab-tested for quality assurance.

The temple will feature Chunar stones for its exterior finish—stones known for their durability and resistance to moss and weather damage. The walls and doors of the temple will be adorned with artwork depicting stories from the Ramayana, adding to its religious and cultural significance.

Once completed, the Virat Ramayan Mandir is expected to draw devotees and tourists from across India and abroad, serving as a spiritual and architectural marvel for generations to come.
