Patna News: The Bihar State Election Commission has announced that elections will be held in six urban local bodies and by-elections in 56 others across the state. The voter list preparation process is already underway.

According to the official schedule, the draft voter list will be released on April 11, 2025, after which citizens can raise claims and objections until April 24. The final list will be published on May 9, 2025.

The urban bodies going for regular elections include:

- Kochas Nagar Panchayat

- Mehsi Nagar Panchayat

- Pakaridayal Nagar Panchayat

- Khusrupur Nagar Panchayat

- Vikram Nagar Panchayat

- Naubatpur Nagar Panchayat

Meanwhile, 56 urban bodies will see by-elections to fill vacant positions, the Commission stated.

Patna Sarpanches Begin Distribution of Appointment Letters to Village Court Secretaries

In a parallel development, the Panchayati Raj Department has started the process of appointing Gram Kachahari (village court) secretaries.

On Friday, counselling was conducted for 65 vacant posts in Patna district, and 45 candidates were successfully appointed. These candidates received their appointment letters directly from the sarpanches of their respective village panchayats during an event held at the Dashrath Manjhi Labour and Study Institute in Patna.

Out of 63 selected candidates for Patna district:

- 13 were absent

- 5 were found ineligible

The remaining 45 eligible candidates were successfully appointed and will soon take charge of their roles. Their joining has also been officially approved by the department.

The statewide recruitment drive for 1,583 Gram Kachahari Secretary posts has begun, with Patna being the first to conduct counselling. The Panchayati Raj Department plans to start phase-wise counselling in other districts shortly, and all updates will be shared via the department’s official social media handles and SMS alerts to the candidates' registered phone numbers.
