The Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC) has begun the process of transferring the operation of its statewide ‘Pink Bus Service’ entirely to women, announcing a recruitment drive for female drivers. Applications will be accepted until December 15, 2025.
Selected candidates will undergo a two-week specialised training programme at the IDTR in Aurangabad from January 20, 2026. BSRTC will provide food and accommodation during the training, following which participants may be offered contractual appointments.
Applicants must possess an HMV or LMV driving licence with a minimum of three years’ driving experience. The age limit is 21-40 years, calculated as of January 1, 2026. To widen participation, the corporation will also assist LMV licence holders in obtaining an HMV licence.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had flagged off 20 pink buses on May 16. At present, 8 buses are operating in Patna, 4 in Muzaffarpur, 2 each in Darbhanga and Bhagalpur, and 2 each in Purnia and Gaya. Under the second phase, the fleet will be expanded with 22 buses in Patna, 16 in Muzaffarpur, 13 each in Darbhanga and Gaya, and 8 each in Purnia and Bhagalpur, taking the total to 100 buses across the state.

Detailed information is available on the BSRTC website and at local transport offices. The initiative aims to create new avenues of employment, dignity, and self-reliance for women in Bihar.
