Millions of women in Bihar are now a step closer to realising their entrepreneurial dreams. Under a new state initiative, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will transfer the first installment of Rs 10,000 into the bank accounts of 7.5 million women on September 26. This initial transfer will amount to a total of Rs 7,500 crore.

Manika Devi, Araria: She runs a business of selling rice, puffed rice and other roasted grain snacks with her husband. She plans to use the financial assistance to expand her business to the state level.
Shobha Devi, Sikti: With a background in traditional pottery, Shobha plans to modernise her business by introducing new technology and production methods, which will also create jobs for other women in her community.
Uma Rani, Arwal: She is involved in environmental conservation through her nursery business. The scheme's funds will help her develop the nursery further, boosting employment opportunities in her rural area.
About The Chief Minister's Women's Employment Scheme
This scheme is designed to empower women in Bihar by providing them with the resources to achieve financial independence through self-employment.
- Financial Assistance: The program provides an initial grant of Rs 10,000, with a second installment of up to Rs 200,000 available later.
- Objective: The primary goal is to empower women financially and promote self-employment.
- Eligibility: The scheme is open to women from Bihar who are part of a Jeevika Self-Help Group and wish to start their own business.
- Application Process: Women in rural areas can apply through their Village Organisation, while those in urban areas can use an online portal.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has emphasised that empowering women leads to the progress of their families, society and the state as a whole. This initiative is one of several significant steps his government has taken, along side programs like the Mukhyamantri Kanya Utthan Yojana and various pension schemes, to support women's development.
