The computerisation of Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) and their transformation into Common Service Centres (CSCs) is yielding promising results in Bihar, with over Rs 4.5 crore in business transacted so far by 4,316 PACS-based CSCs. These centres are currently offering more than 300 digital services to rural citizens, significantly easing access to essential facilities.
According to a progress report released by the Cooperative Department, 4,477 PACS have been computerised in the first phase across the state, and CSC IDs have been generated for 5,987 PACS.
The initiative, aimed at enhancing rural digital access and governance, has been lauded by Cooperative Minister Dr Prem Kumar, who termed it a "major achievement for the state." He noted that rural lives are becoming more convenient due to the expanding services provided through these centres.
Registrar of Cooperative Societies Inayat Khan reviewed the project in a video conference held on Monday with District Cooperative Officers, Cooperative Extension Officers, and CSC District Managers.
During the session, districts such as Sheikhpura, Kaimur, Madhepura, and Supaul were recognised for having more than 90 per cent of their PACS actively operating CSCs. However, districts like Munger, Buxar, Gopalganj, Aurangabad, and Lakhisarai showed unsatisfactory progress. Officials were instructed to expedite the activation of CSCs in non-functional PACS across these areas.
