Bihar Government Formation: After the resounding victory of the NDA in the recently held Assembly elections in Bihar, discussions are underway for the formation of the new government in the state. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday met Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan and apprised him that he will be submitting his resignation on November 19, dissolving the current NDA government.

Bihar BJP chief Dilip Jaiswal, meanwhile, announced that a party meeting will be held on November 18 to choose its Legislature Party leader and asserted that the work of forming the government will be completed by November 21. Jaiswal said that the BJP meeting will be attended by observers from the Centre.
"Tomorrow morning at 10 AM, there will be a meeting of the BJP Legislature Party at the BJP's Atal Sabhaghar, and in the meeting of the Legislature Party, the BJP will choose its leader. Our observers from the Centre will also come, and then there will be an NDA meeting, and then the work of government formation will be completed. By the 21st, the work of government formation will be completed," Dilip Jaiswal stated.
Who Will Be Bihar Chief Minister?
While the NDA leaders, including PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP Chief JP Nadda, have time and again asserted that the Bihar polls have been fought under the leadership of Nitish Kumar, there has been no official announcement so far putting a stamp on his name.
The BJP, which emerged as the single-largest party in the recently concluded polls, categorically has not named Nitish Kumar as the Chief Minister. According to a report by Jagran.com, the BJP may decide the name of the Chief Minister in the legislative party meeting on November 18. Given the huge mandate in the elections to the BJP, it is expected that the saffron brigade may pick the CM from its MLAs.
"There are certain processes which have to be followed. Our newly elected 89 MLAs are busy holding thanksgiving functions in their respective seats. We will later meet and elect our Assembly leader. All our partners will do the same. Then all NDA MLAs will hold a meeting to elect the leader," Dilip Jaiswal said as quoted by The Tribune.

However, other NDA allies, including Jitan Ram Manjhi and Chirag Paswan, have asserted that Nitish Kumar will become Bihar CM for the tenth time. HAM(S) founder Jitan Ram Manjhi, who met the BJP Bihar election in-charge Dharmendra Pradhan in Delhi on Sunday, asserted that Nitish Kumar will be the face for the Chief Minister's post.
After his meeting with Pradhan, Manjhi said, "One thing is clear: Nitish Kumar will be the face for the Chief Minister's post." Speaking about the swearing-in ceremony for the Bihar government, Manjhi said, "The ceremony will be held at Gandhi Maidan. Preparations are underway, but the date will be finalised once Prime Minister Narendra Modi confirms it."
Chirag Paswan, whose party, Lok Janshakti Party, emerged as a top gainer by winning 19 of the 29 seats it contested, on Saturday met Nitish Kumar and congratulated him for the historic mandate NDA received in the Bihar Assembly Election 2025. After the meeting, Paswan heaped praises on Nitish Kumar and said that his personal choice for the Bihar CM would be Nitish Kumar.
"My personal choice would be Nitish Kumar. We have fought the polls under his leadership. But I understand that the CM's selection is done after following a process."
