Several discrepancies have emerged in the third-semester undergraduate results (2023-27) recently released by BRA Bihar University. Some students were reportedly awarded marks exceeding the maximum possible.
A provisional marksheet of a commerce student from LS College, circulating on social media, showed 107 out of 100 in a theory paper of the Skill Enhancement Course. Although the result was declared ‘Excellent’, the student expressed concern over the validity of the marks.
Similar errors had occurred during the release of the second-semester results of the same session, prompting corrections following student complaints. The university’s Controller of Examinations, Prof Ramkumar, clarified that the viral marksheet had been corrected, with the student actually receiving 87 marks, attributing the error to data entry mistakes.
The results of over 5,000 students are still pending, causing distress among examinees. The university has instructed students not to visit the campus for pending results. Applications must be submitted through their respective colleges, which will consolidate and forward them to the examinations department for correction.
Studies for more than 1 lakh fourth-semester undergraduate students have been disrupted due to the non-implementation of the Ability Enhancement Course (AEC) curriculum. While regular college classes continue, the AEC classes, covering Scouts and Guides, NCC, NGO, Social Service, and Sports, are not being conducted because the curriculum has not been implemented. Only the NCC curriculum is partially available in some colleges.
The curriculum had been prepared and presented to the Academic Council, which authorised the Syllabus Committee to finalise it. However, the university currently has no Syllabus Committee, and its formation has not begun, leaving students without proper guidance.
With fourth-semester examinations approaching, there is concern that students may have to appear without studying these subjects. DSW Dr Alok Pratap Singh stated that a decision will be taken soon to ensure the curriculum is approved and implemented in time.
Following the implementation of the four-year undergraduate course, the university has completed admissions for two academic sessions, with the third session ongoing. However, nodal departments for Value Added Courses, Skill Enhancement Courses, and other papers have not been decided. Guidelines on departmental responsibilities, teacher assignments for internal evaluations, and course frameworks are currently absent, causing colleges to act arbitrarily.
