The Bihar Road Construction Department has approved the widening of the road connecting Pakdidayal in Eastern Champaran with Meenapur in Muzaffarpur. An estimated Rs 11 crore will be spent on the project, under which the existing five-metre-wide road will be expanded to 10 metres. A roadside drainage system will also be constructed as part of the plan.

According to Executive Engineer Anjani Kumar of the Dhaka Road Division, the widening will ease traffic congestion in Pakdidayal and Meenapur, where heavy commercial vehicles from Gorakhpur, Shivhar, Sitamarhi, and Nepal currently cause frequent jams on the single-lane stretch. The new double-lane road is expected to boost connectivity, trade, and employment opportunities across the region.

Meanwhile, residents of Ward 47 under the Muzaffarpur Municipal Corporation have raised strong objections to an incomplete drain construction project along the main road. The work has been stalled for several days, leading to waterlogging and the accumulation of filthy water in the drain. Locals say the foul stench has made it difficult to breathe, and dirty water has begun overflowing onto roads and residential areas, raising fears of disease outbreaks.

Residents, including Rakesh Kumar, Suman Kumar, Nilu Kumari, Poonam Kumari, Mithilesh Pathak, and Indradev Pathak, submitted a memorandum to the Municipal Commissioner demanding immediate resumption of construction and cleaning of the drain.

They said stagnant water has obstructed movement in the neighbourhood, making it hard for children to attend school and for women to step out of their homes.
