In good news for approximately 40,000 teachers in government schools, the Education Department has issued an order to ensure their pending salaries are paid before the upcoming festival season of Dussehra, Diwali, and Chhath. This directive will also benefit around 1,300 teachers in the Muzaffarpur district.

In a letter to all District Education Officers, Education Secretary Dinesh Kumar highlighted that many contractual teachers, special teachers, and newly appointed head teachers and headmasters have not been receiving their salaries since joining their posts. The Secretary has ordered officials to complete all technical and procedural formalities within one week to initiate payments. The order outlines specific steps for updating the HRMS portal with the teachers' new posting information and for generating Permanent Retirement Account Numbers (PRAN) for those who need them.

The salary delays were attributed to incomplete technical procedures at the district level. For many of the 40,000 affected teachers—appointed under the TRE-3 phase—essential documents such as academic certificates, BPSC selection papers, Aadhaar cards, and bank details had not been uploaded to the e-Shikshakosh portal. Furthermore, the onboarding process on the HRMS portal was stalled due to mismatches in personal data like dates of birth and mobile numbers, a situation worsened by a lack of proper monitoring.

Lakkhan Lal Nishad, a divisional official of the ParivartankariPrarambhikShikshak Sangh (a teachers' association), confirmed that about 1,300 teachers in Muzaffarpur are awaiting their salaries. He noted that while the association is working with the District Education Officer to clear the technical hurdles, a shortage of computer operators is slowing down the process. Despite these challenges, he affirmed that efforts are underway to resolve the payment issues before the festivals.
