Indian Railways has launched an e-pantry facility on Mail and Express trains to address passenger complaints regarding food quality, overcharging, and unauthorised vendors.
The pilot project is currently running on the Swatantrata Senani Express, allowing passengers to book meals and beverages digitally. If successful, the service will be extended to all Mail and Express trains.

Passengers with e-tickets can order food through the IRCTC website or app, either while booking their tickets or via the history section of an existing booking. The pre-ordered meals, prepared hygienically and at fixed prices, will be delivered directly to their seats.
IRCTC officials said the e-pantry system, already available on premium trains such as the Shatabdi Express, will now be linked to the ticket booking platform on trains equipped with a pantry car. This initiative aims to enhance convenience, ensure transparency in pricing, and reduce complaints related to food quality during travel.
