A man was brutally assaulted and humiliated in Bihar’s Katihar district after a woman accused him of molesting and harassing her. The man, who worked in a flour mill owned by the woman’s husband, denied the allegations but he was severely beaten up, his head and beard were forcibly shaved and was made to wear a garland of shoes to shame him in public.

The incident took place in Kabar village, where the man, identified as Anand, used to visit regularly for his work. He had developed an acquaintance with the woman, who was married to Rajiv Kumar, the owner of the flour mill. They also had phone conversations frequently.

The woman alleged that Anand had made unwanted calls to her and even entered her house when her husband was away. She said that Anand had molested her and threatened to kill her husband if he spoke to her.

On the day of the incident, the woman raised an alarm when Anand came to her house. Her family members caught him and tied him to a peg. They beat him up severely, shaved his head and beard and put a garland of shoes around his neck to shame him in public.

Anand, on his part, said that he was innocent and that the woman had called him up and asked him to come over. He said that he had no romantic involvement with her and that he was being framed.

The police were informed of the matter and took Anand into custody. However, since neither party lodged a complaint, Anand was released from police custody later.
