Chief Minister Nitish Kumar virtually inaugurated 28 Panchayat Sarkar Bhavans (panchayat government buildings) and laid the foundation stone for an additional 45 Bhavans and 20 new ‘Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Mandaps’ (marriage halls) across the district.

The event was webcast live, with ceremonies held at the district, block, and panchayat levels, attended by elected representatives, officials, and the general public.

'Kanya Vivah Mandap' Scheme: A Women-Led Initiative

The new marriage hall scheme was conceptualised based on suggestions from women during the ‘Mukhyamantri Mahila Samvad’ (Chief Minister's Women's Dialogue) program. The government has designed the scheme to be a significant step towards women's empowerment.

Each marriage hall will be constructed on approximately 13,200 square feet of land at the gram panchayat level.

The responsibility for their operation and maintenance will be entrusted to local Jeevika (women's self-help) groups, ensuring women's participation and promoting self-reliance.

A Multi-Purpose Community Hub

These halls are designed to be more than just wedding venues; they will function as central hubs for socio-cultural activities. Their use will include:

- Gram Sabha (village assembly) meetings

- Meetings for women's self-help groups

- Youth club programs and cultural events

- Awareness campaigns and other community gatherings

This initiative will provide poor and middle-class families with an affordable and dignified venue for social functions, reducing their dependence on expensive private buildings or temporary pandals.
