Three people were killed and one was seriously injured after being struck by the Vikramshila Express near the Mamarkhabad-Mekra halt on Friday. The victims were part of a group from Tandapar village walking along the railway tracks to attend a pre-wedding ceremony in Gopkita village.

The deceased have been identified as  30-year-old Jito Manjhi, 67-year-old Ritlal Manjhi, and 21-year-old Govinda Kumar. The injured, Jagalal Manjhi, has been rushed to PMCH in Patna for treatment.

Details Of The Accident

According to eyewitnesses, a group of 27 people was walking in a single file along a railway path when the Bhagalpur to Anand Vihar express train approached. While 23 members of the party managed to escape unharmed, the accident triggered a stampede as people jumped for their lives.

After the train passed, local residents helped the survivors inform the Pandarak police. Officers arrived at the scene, recovered the bodies, and initiated an investigation. Senior officials, including Rail DSP Mukul Parimal Pandey and Mokama RPF Post in-charge Ravindra Kumar, also reached the site. The bodies have been sent to Barh Hospital for a post-mortem examination, and an FIR has been registered.

The incident has cast a pall of grief over the villages of Tandapar and Gopkita, turning a joyous occasion into a tragedy. The sounds of celebration were replaced by wails of mourning as distraught family members gathered.
