RJD Bihar Debacle: Tejashwi Yadav-led Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) suffered an embarrassing defeat in the recent Bihar Assembly elections, but its traditional Muslim-Yadav vote bank remained intact this time too. Ascendia Strategies' election analysis clearly shows that while the number of seats may have decreased, RJD's core voters remained loyal to the party.

What Analytic Data Shows

According to the report, 60% of the 38% votes received by the Grand Alliance came from the Muslim and Yadav communities alone. Yadavs contributed 10% of the total vote to the Grand Alliance, while the Muslim vote share was 13%. This means there was no significant decline in the RJD's social base.

If RJD's MY Voters Remained Loyal, How NDA Won?

In this election, the NDA set a record by winning 202 out of 243 seats. Of the NDA's 47% total vote share, Yadavs accounted for only 3% and Muslims 2%. This means that the NDA's victory wasn't achieved by cutting into RJD's MY votes, but rather by other communities giving it a significant boost.

Upper Caste And OBC Voters Support NDA

According to Ascendia data, a large number of upper caste votes went in favour of the NDA. 7% of the NDA's total vote share came from the General category, while the Grand Alliance received only 2%. Non-Yadav OBCs also supported the NDA significantly. The NDA received 7% of the votes from this community, while the Grand Alliance received only 3%.

The NDA received the most support from the EBC (Extremely Backward Classes), SC, and ST communities. Of its 47% total vote share, 60% came from these communities alone. About 15% of the EBC population voted for the NDA, while the Grand Alliance received only 6%. SC-ST voters contributed 13% of the votes to the NDA, while the Grand Alliance received only 4%.
