Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday took the oath of office for the record 10th time after the NDA returned to power with a thumping majority.
Along with CM Nitish, 26 others took the oath of office and secrecy as state ministers of the Cabinet. Among these 26 is Deepak Prakash, who has taken oath as minister but didn't contest the recently concluded Vidhan Sabha Elections.
Who is Deepak Prakash?
Deepak Prakash is the son of Upendra Kushwaha, the chief of Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM). As part of the seat-sharing agreement, the RLM got 6 seats to contest and won 4 out of them.
However, Kushwaha selected his son over the 4 elected MLAs. There were also speculations that Kushwaha's wife, Snehlata, might get a seat in the Bihar Cabinet, but finally, Deepak's name was finalised.
Snehlata, who contested the Bihar Assembly elections from the Sasaram seat, won by a margin of over 25,000. She polled 1.05.006 votes against her near rival, RJD candidate Satyendra Saha, who got 79,563 votes.
Deepak is not a member of either House of the Bihar Legislature and hence will be inducted as MLC to continue serving as the minister.
During the seat negotiations, there were reports that Kushwaha was not happy and only after Amit Shah's intervention, the consensus was reached and Kushwaha's RLM was given six seats to contest and one seat in Legislative Council.
