Bihar is preparing for the formation of its new cabinet on Thursday, with JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar set to return as chief minister. Patna’s Gandhi Maidan is being readied to host dignitaries from across India, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and several senior NDA leaders are expected to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his cabinet at Patna's historic Gandhi Maidan on Thursday, sources said.

Preparations for the oath-taking ceremony are in the final stages, with Kumar poised to assume office as chief minister for a record 10th time.

Several Union ministers and chief ministers of NDA-ruled states are anticipated to attend the event. A significant number of security personnel have been deployed in and around Gandhi Maidan, and public entry has been completely banned until 20 November, reported PTI, citing sources.

Bihar BJP State President Dilip Jaiswal stated that the government formation process will be completed on Wednesday, as the NDA gears up for a crucial day of internal meetings and political mobilisation ahead of Nitish Kumar's oath-taking ceremony. Jaiswal confirmed that the BJP legislative party meeting will take place at 11:30 am.

Interestingly, the newly elected MLAs of the NDA on Wednesday chose Nitish Kumar as the leader of the NDA, ensuring his return as chief minister. In addition, both deputy chief ministers, Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Sinha, are also set to retain their posts in the new government. However, BJP's Prem Kumar is expected to become the new Assembly speaker, while the post of deputy speaker will go to JDU, reported PTI, citing sources.

The new cabinet is expected to feature five to six new faces from the two main parties. While JD(U) is likely to retain its current ministers, BJP may bring in a few new members, including former IPS officer Anand Mishra (elected from Buxar), Rana Randhir, Gayatri Devi, and Vijay Kumar Khemka. While the LJP is likely to secure three berths in the new cabinet, the HAM and RLM are also expected to gain one berth each.

Additionally, other allies, such as Chirag Paswan's LJP and HAM, led by Jitan Ram Manjhi, are also anticipated to receive their share of representation in the cabinet.

Vehicular traffic has been diverted on certain routes leading to Gandhi Maidan due to the event.

Nitish Kumar reviewed preparations for the oath-taking ceremony on Tuesday. He was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, several ministers, and Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit.
