The Patna health department has set up special arrangements for AES (Acute Encephalitis Syndrome) and heat stroke patients due to the severe heat wave warning. The Civil Surgeon has reserved four-bed AC wards for these patients in Guru Gobind Singh, Danapur, Barh, and Bakhtiarpur hospitals.

Civil Surgeon Dr Avinash Kumar Singh stated that the number of heatstroke and AES cases may increase due to the extreme heat. AC beds have been reserved to provide quick and effective treatment. Necessary medicines, glucose, ORS, and other essential equipment have been provided in these wards.

Instructions have been given to purchase any additional medicines if needed. The public is being made aware of the symptoms of heat-related illnesses. ASHA workers have been instructed to provide ORS and paracetamol tablets/syrup and intensify surveillance so patients can receive immediate primary treatment if they show symptoms of heat-related illnesses.

Compared to 2012, AES cases have decreased in the state. Last year, a total of 32 AES cases were reported in the state, including 19 in Muzaffarpur. Many patients from other districts came to Patna for treatment, but no cases were identified here. In contrast, 32 people died due to heatstroke in the state last year, including one in Patna.

The number of people who fell ill due to heatstroke was much higher. The Civil Surgeon stated that children, the elderly, pregnant women, and those with weak immune systems are most affected by the heat.

These individuals should avoid going out in extreme heat, drink plenty of water, and eat fresh, light home-cooked meals. If any symptoms of heat-related illness appear, they should immediately visit the nearest health center, where doctors, medical staff, and necessary medicines are available 24 hours a day.
