The Patna Metro project has achieved a significant milestone with the successful completion of the second tunnel leading to the PMCH station. This development has further accelerated the pace of construction for the underground corridor. This is the same section where drilling by the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) was halted for three months due to the presence of the Radha-Krishna temple. Respecting the sentiments of the locals, the tunnel's route was realigned to preserve the temple, and the construction was eventually completed successfully.

With the tunnel now complete, work on station construction, platform setup, and other technical tasks in this section of the metro corridor will gain momentum. Two tunnels have been constructed within this 1,480-meter underground stretch; the first was completed on November 10, while the second has now been finished. According to the engineering team, this difficult section has elevated both the complexity of the project and the team's experience to a new level.

TBM Section Cleanup: Path To Open In Six Months

With the tunnel finished, the process of retrieving the TBM machines will now begin. The cleaning and structural inspection of this new tunnel from PMCH to Gandhi Maidan will take approximately six months. Only after this period will further underground infrastructural activities be expanded in this section.

Special Contribution Of Junior Engineers And Technical Team

According to the tunnel construction team, the PMCH area is extremely sensitive in terms of underground structure. Extreme precision was required to ensure the safety of surrounding buildings, the hospital, traffic, and religious sites. Engineers achieved success even in the difficult 230-meter section where a diversion had to be created beneath the temple. Completing this specific section is being considered the most challenging phase of the entire project.

Station Construction To Pick Up Pace In January

Following the tunnel's completion, work on the platform, wall segments, technical rooms, and other facilities within the PMCH station will commence in January. The station's interior is being developed with a modern design to ensure passengers are provided with safe and comfortable amenities.

Additionally, work on critical safety standards—such as cable ducts, ventilation systems, and emergency exits—within the underground route will proceed rapidly. Once the line from PMCH to Gandhi Maidan is operational, this section is expected to be the busiest and most significant route for the Patna Metro.

Patna Metro officials aim to begin operations of the underground corridor within the scheduled timeline of 2025. With the completion of the second tunnel, the project has now entered a crucial phase.
