The construction of the Patna Metro Rail project has gained speed and is now in its final stages. Finishing work is being completed rapidly at the New ISBT, Zero Mile, and Bhootnath Road stations. According to officials from the Patna Metro Rail Corporation Limited (PMRCL), the civil construction work on the 6.49 km long priority corridor (from MalahiPakri to New ISBT) is almost complete. The focus has now shifted to platform construction, tiling, lighting, installing escalators, and setting up security features. Operations on this corridor will begin only after getting the green signal from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety, with a strong emphasis on maintaining quality.
Successful Trial Runs And Fares Decided
Recently, the first trial run of a three-coach metro train was successful, covering a distance of 4.5 km from the ISBT depot to the Bhootnath Road station. Along with this, the fares for these three stations on the corridor have also been decided ahead of the inauguration. The minimum fare will be Rs 15 and the maximum will be Rs 30. A trip from New ISBT to Zero Mile will cost Rs 15, while traveling to Bhootnath Road will cost ₹30. The metro is expected to operate daily from 5 am to 11 pm.
The project, which is being implemented by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), had faced some delays, but the work is now back on track. The target is to open this corridor for the general public in October. At the New ISBT station, 80 per cent of the finishing work is done, while electrical and signage work at the Zero Mile and Bhootnath Road stations is in its final phase. The massive 76-acre metro depot at Baiyya is also nearly ready.
Project Scope And Benefits
This corridor is part of the North-South line, which will have a total of 12 stations. It will connect the New ISBT bus terminal, the Zero Mile city center, and the busy areas of Bhootnath Road. The entire 31 km long project, costing over Rs 13,000 crore, will have 24 stations, with an East-West corridor running from Danapur to Mithapur. It is expected to reduce the city's traffic, pollution, and congestion.

Station Design And Facilities
Initially, each metro station will have two ticket counters, which can be increased or decreased based on crowd levels. The Bhootnath Road and Zero Mile stations are elevated, with the first floor serving as the station concourse and the second floor for the platforms. At New ISBT, the station building is separate from the platform and is connected by a subway from the second floor. The platforms at all three stations have been equipped with CCTV, navigation, and announcement systems to monitor activities on both the 'up' and 'down' lines.
Ongoing Work And Connectivity
The metro trial run, which started on September 4, is still in progress. The initial tests were conducted inside the depot and then on the elevated track, which were successful even in low light. Some minor issues that came up during the trials are being fixed starting today (Tuesday).
Additionally, a foot-over bridge is being constructed at the Bhootnath Road station to cross the bypass road, which will connect directly to the station. The tower on the other side of the road is complete, and the girder installation is now pending. This will make it easier for local residents to access the station.
