With the onset of Chhath Mahaparva, wholesale fruit purchasing has gained momentum at the Musallahpur fruit market under the Agricultural Produce Market Committee in Patna. Traders said this period marks the busiest time for fruit and puja material sales, with large-scale arrivals and purchases from across districts.

On Wednesday, traders from several districts reached the market for bulk purchases, and their numbers are expected to rise further on Thursday. By Friday and Saturday, local traders from Patna and nearby areas will dominate the market.

The Patna Fruit and Vegetables Association had sought administrative support for smooth market operations, including security and traffic management. Though Divisional Commissioner Animesh Parasar had assured the deployment of police personnel, traffic congestion was reported on Wednesday due to the absence of traffic control staff.

According to association president Shashi Kant Prasad, over 400 fruit-laden trucks have reached the market so far, with hundreds more on the way. Around 100 trucks of apples have arrived from Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, while 150 more are en route. Similarly, 100 trucks of oranges have reached Patna, and another 80-120 are expected soon.

Between 50-60 trucks of bananas have arrived from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Bengal, and Hajipur, with 150 more expected on Thursday. Pears from Punjab, 60 trucks of pomegranates from Nashik and Pune, and 60-70 trucks of coconuts from Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka have also reached the market. Additionally, 25-30 trucks of pineapples from Kishanganj and Bengal and 20-25 trucks of Gagar lemons have arrived, with several more consignments expected in the coming days.

Meanwhile, fruit prices have seen fluctuations due to increased festive demand.

The rates in the market are as follows:

-Apple (Kashmir): Rs 140-160/kg

-Apple: Rs 80-120/kg

-Orange: Rs 40-60/kg

-Banana: Rs 500-700 per bunch

-Pear: Rs 100-120/kg

-Green Grapes: Rs 140-150/kg

-Pomegranate: Rs 140-220 per piece

-Coconut: Rs 40-80 per piece

-Gagar Lemon: Rs 40-50 per pair

-Pineapple: Rs 80-100 per pair

-Guava (small): Rs 40-70/kg

-Guava (large): Rs 80-100/kg

Traders predict that the fruit trade will witness a sharp rise in the next few days, with supply lines expected to remain busy until the culmination of the festival.
