Continuous heavy rainfall in Bihar, as well as in neighbouring states and Nepal, has led to a sharp rise in the water level of the Ganga river, which is now flowing well above the danger mark at multiple ghats across Patna. Between 5 AM and 7 PM on Sunday, the water level surged by 30 to 60 centimetres in various locations, prompting flood concerns in low-lying areas.
According to the latest update from the district administration, Gandhi Ghat recorded the highest increase, with the water level reaching 58 cm above the danger mark by Sunday evening, up from 40 cm in the morning.

In Maner, the river rose from 3 cm above the danger mark to 38 cm over the threshold. Danapur witnessed a jump from 30 cm below the danger level in the morning to 1 cm above it by evening. At Digha Ghat, the Ganga rose from being 24 cm below the red line to 5 cm above by nightfall.
Due to the swelling river, floodwaters have started entering agricultural lands and inhabited areas in several blocks, including Bakhtiyarpur and Maner.
In light of the growing risk, the Disaster Management Department has activated the District Emergency Operation Centre, which will operate 24x7. Residents in need of assistance can contact the helpline at 0612-2210118.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have urged people in vulnerable areas to stay alert and follow official advisories.
