Patna News: A dead snake was pulled out of a midday meal at a government school in Mokama, Patna, according to a media report. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of India has taken suo motu cognisance of the report. According to a report by Business Standard, over 100 students fell ill after eating the meal on April 24.

If the report is true, the Commission stated, it raises grave concerns over the human rights violations of the students.

The Commission sent notifications to the Senior Superintendent of Police in Patna and the Chief Secretary of the Government of Bihar, asking them to provide a thorough report on the occurrence, including the health status of the impacted children, within two weeks.

According to Business Standard, a media reported dated April 25, revealed that 500 students had eaten the mid-day meal. After becoming unwell, almost two dozen children were admitted to Mokama's referral hospital for treatment, while two more were treated at the Barh sub-divisional hospital.

Witnesses said that the kids started throwing up and felt lightheaded after a snake fell into the food. However, no traces of toxic substances were discovered in their bodies by the doctors. SDM Subham Kumar has promised a thorough probe into the case.

According to villagers, the meal was consumed by over 100 students, causing many of them to become unwell at the Upkramit Madhya Vidyalaya Government School in Mekra village, Mokama block.

There was apparently an uproar in the the village as the kids felt dizzy and puked. They said that a snake had fallen into the food and was subsequently removed before they were compelled to consume it.

According to reports, several students who refused to consume the tainted food were forced into doing so.
