Police from the Jakkanpur police station, acting on a tip-off from the Prohibition Department, have arrested four individuals involved in an interstate liquor smuggling ring. The operation targeted a gang smuggling liquor from Madhya Pradesh to Patna, Hajipur and Saran.
Seizures And Recovery
During raids conducted at two houses in Mithapur and Indira Nagar, police recovered a significant cache of contraband and assets:
Liquor: 669 litres of liquor, reportedly worth Rs 1,000,000.
Cash: Rs 1,761,000, believed to be proceeds from smuggling activities.
Vehicles And Equipment: Two scooters and eight mobile phones used to facilitate the operation.
The Accused
All four accused are residents of Isuapur and Mashrak in the Saran district. They have been identified as:
Uday Kumar (alias Harish): The mastermind of the gang. He has a prior criminal record and was previously jailed in Madhya Pradesh for storing liquor.
- Rohit Kumar
- Kunal Kumar
- Abhishek Kumar
Sadar ASP Abhinav confirmed that raids are ongoing to identify other individuals connected to the supply chain. Authorities are also gathering intelligence on the specific sources of the liquor in Madhya Pradesh.
Modus Operandi
Interrogations revealed that the gang had been active for the past year.
Supply Route: Uday utilised connections with smugglers in Madhya Pradesh to transport liquor to Danapur by train.
Local Transport: From the railway station, the consignment was moved to hideouts in Jakkanpur using auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws.
Distribution: The gang operated a distribution chain supplying Patna, Hajipur, and Saran.
Structure: Uday employed Rohit, Kunal and Abhishek for the operations, paying them a commission for their services.
Police Operation Details
The police received intelligence that the accused were operating out of a rented room. Upon confirming the information:
- A raid was first conducted in Buddha Colony.
- Subsequently, searches were carried out at houses in the Mithapur old bus stand area and Indira Nagar.
- The four accused were apprehended at these locations along with the liquor consignment, cash, and vehicles.
