The dengue outbreak in Patna has worsened, with 624 cases reported so far this year. Two dozen locations across eight wards have emerged as hotspots, prompting the Municipal Corporation to intensify its response.

Municipal Commissioner Animesh Kumar Parashar said 10 dedicated teams have been assigned to the affected wards. He added that the corporation is working to protect residents from dengue, malaria, and other mosquito-borne diseases, and has directed health and executive officers to personally monitor operations in their areas.

Five teams have been deployed in each ward to carry out anti-larval spraying, with additional units sent to areas facing waterlogging complaints. The spraying is being conducted on rooftops, in plant pots, at under-construction buildings, and other spots where stagnant water could aid mosquito breeding. Alongside this, residents are being urged not to let water accumulate around their homes.

Currently, corporate teams are reaching about 18,000 homes daily. In total, 375 teams, each comprising two members, have been formed for all 75 wards. Fogging and spraying are conducted in two shifts using Temephos for anti-larval treatment and Malathion for fogging.

In areas surrounding dengue patients’ homes, fogging and spraying are being carried out within a 500-metre radius, using both outdoor machines and indoor hand-held devices. A dedicated team of 25 personnel has also been deployed to hospitals, where regular spraying and fogging are underway.

  • Patliputra zone: 13
  • Nutan Rajdhani zone: 12
  • Azimabad zone: 7
  • Patna City zone: 6
