Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor on Wednesday claimed that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will contest the upcoming assembly elections in alliance with the BJP but may later change sides in an attempt to secure another term. Prashant Kishor also asserted that Nitish Kumar’s declining popularity would prevent him from winning a fifth consecutive term, regardless of which alliance he joins.
Speaking at a press conference in West Champaran district, Kishor stated, "Anybody can become the chief minister after the elections in November, except Nitish Kumar. If I am proven wrong, I will give up my political campaign."
Amid speculation that Nitish Kumar might exit the NDA due to BJP’s reluctance to declare him as the chief ministerial candidate, Prashant Kishor dismissed such claims, insisting that Nitish Kumar will contest with the BJP, barring a repeat of 2015, when Kishor himself managed his campaign.

He further alleged that the BJP is unwilling to name Kumar as its CM face due to his plummeting popularity. “I challenge Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to announce that Nitish Kumar will be CM for five years if NDA wins. If they do, the BJP will struggle to secure seats,” Kishor said.
Kishor, who was expelled as JD(U) national vice president in 2020 following a fallout with Kumar, predicted a poor electoral performance for the ruling party. “The JD(U) will do very badly in the elections. If Kumar tries to switch sides after realizing BJP won’t back him, it won’t help—his party’s seat tally will be too low for him to claim the top post,” he said.
The election strategist also attacked Kumar’s health and governance, alleging that the 74-year-old leader was “physically tired and mentally retired”. He recalled that late BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi had once stated that Kumar suffered from a serious mental illness.
“I challenge Nitish Kumar to name his own cabinet ministers or even the district he is touring, without being prompted by officials. He cannot do it,” Kishor claimed.
Prashant Kishor also reiterated his party’s commitment to rescuing Bihar from political stagnation, blaming both the BJP and Congress for enabling RJD president Lalu Prasad Yadav and Nitish Kumar to dominate state politics for decades.
