The forest department of Bihar’s Rohtas district arrested two men for hunting and transporting the remains of a black buck, which is a protected species. Divisional Forest Officer Manish Kumar Verma said the accused were arrested on Sunday and they are also investigating the role of local police station’s SHO in the crime.
The arrested individuals were identified as Sabad Anwar and Sirazudhaula, residents of Langhi and Pewandi villages while four other suspects are still on the run. The forest officials seized a Scorpio SUV with the meat and remains of the black buck from the premises of Chenari police station.

“We have learnt that a black buck was hunted and the remains were kept in a Scorpio SUV. The SUV was parked inside the premises of Chenari police station. We raided the place and seized the vehicle. During the investigation, it appeared that six persons were involved in the case and we have managed to arrest two of them -- Sabad Anwar and Sirazudhaula while four others are absconding,’’ a senior forest official said as quoted by IANS.
Rohtas SP Vineet Kumar said that they handed over the meat and remains of black buck to the forest department and are probing the suspected role of police personnel in this crime. He stated that if any police officer is found guilty in the incident, the police department will take action against them.

The hunting of the black buck is banned in the country as they are categorized as protected species under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972. A similar case of killing a black buck involving actor Salman Khan is currently underway in Jodhpur court since mid mid-1990s.
