Bihar is set to gain global recognition with the comprehensive development of the Punauradham temple, believed to be the birthplace of Goddess Sita. Health and Law Minister Mangal Pandey stated that the government aims to transform the temple complex in Sitamarhi district into a major international religious tourism destination, similar to Ayodhya.
On Friday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will lay the foundation stone for the ambitious project, which envisions a grand and divine new temple by 2028. The Bihar government has approved a total outlay of Rs 882.87 crore for the temple's development, including land acquisition and infrastructure expansion.
The temple complex will be developed over 50 acres, with Rs 165.57 crore allocated specifically for land acquisition. The project includes the construction of the temple wall, Mata Janaki Kund Ghat, Yagya Mandap and Anushthan Mandap, Prasad Bhog and kitchen area, Veda Pathshala, library, pilgrim and tourist facilities, a museum, food court, auditorium, and the main entrance gate.
Other key features include tensile umbrellas, Bhajan Sandhya site, dormitories, guest houses, public amenities, e-cart station, Mithila Haat, a dedicated temple road pathway, and parking areas.
Minister Pandey emphasised that the state government is committed to the holistic development of both Sitamarhi and the Punauradham temple complex, aiming to place it prominently on the global religious tourism map.
