Bihar Assembly Elections 2025: As seat-sharing demands from Mahagathbandhan allies grow louder ahead of the Bihar Assembly Elections, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav has made a direct appeal to voters. Addressing a rally in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur, he urged the people of Bihar to vote in his name across all 243 constituencies.
“This time, Tejashwi will contest all 243 seats. Whether it is Bochahan or Muzaffarpur, Tejashwi will fight. My appeal to all of you is to vote in my name. Tejaswhi will work towards taking Bihar forward... All of us should work together and unseat this government,” NDTV quoted Tejashwi as saying.
This statement comes at a crucial time as seat-sharing negotiations within the Mahagathbandhan have intensified and become more challenging with the entry of Hemant Soren-led Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and the Pashupati Paras-led Lok Janshakti Party.
Earlier this week, Congress state in-charge Krishna Allavaru suggested that RJD should show more flexibility in seat-sharing and said, “Whenever new parties join the alliance, it is essential for all members to contribute by adjusting their seat shares.”
“In every state, there are good seats and bad seats (in terms of winnability) and we believe that one party should not get all the good seats and the other gets the bad ones. In the sharing of seats, there should be a balance between good and bad seats,” Allavaru was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
Seat-Sharing In 2020 Bihar Assembly Elections
In the 2020 Bihar Assembly Elections, RJD contested 144 seats as a part of the alliance and emerged as the single-largest party with 75 seats. The Congress, which contested on 70 seats, managed to win only 19.
However, Congress believes that it is in a much stronger position with the party leaders pointing out the success of the Vote Adhikar Yatra and “vote-chori” campaign. According to the party leaders, these efforts have resonated with the people of Bihar and boosted the popularity of Gandhi and the Congress in the poll-bound state.
The Congress is aiming to contest at least 70 constituencies in the upcoming Bihar Assembly Elections, NDTV quoted sources as saying. Meanwhile, Vikasheel Insaan Party (VIP) chief Mukesh Sahni is demanding a larger share of seats and the Left parties (CPI, CPI-M, and CPI-ML), which have 15 MLAs, have also pushed for an increased seat allocation.

BJP Reacts
“Stop dreaming, Mr Tejashwi Yadav. You don't have the strength to contest all 243 seats alone. You can keep trying to pile on the pressure on the Congress and your allies with such statements, but the people of Bihar have no faith in you. You remind them of the fodder scam and the land-for-jobs scam. The people will vote for the NDA and in the name of Nitish Kumar and PM Modi,” NDTV quoted BJP spokesperson Neeraj Kumar as saying.
