Rashtriya Janata Dal (JDU) leader Tejashwi Yadav sharply responded to Bihar CM Nitish Kumar’s remark that it was he who helped Lalu Prasad Yadav excel in his political career. Asserting that he had helped the Bihar Chief Minister save his post, Tejashwi called Nitish Kumar a "khataara gaadi" (rickety old car) and said that it was time to take Bihar forward with a fresh perspective.
Refuting Nitish Kumar’s claim, Tejashwi Yadav said that his father, Lalu Yadav, had already been elected MLA two times and MP before Kumar came to power.
"Nitish Kumar said in the Assembly that he made Lalu Yadav the chief minister. He has helped many people in many ways... those supported by him became Prime Ministers... but Nitish Kumar should speak about himself. It was I who saved him twice by helping him retain the Chief Minister's post. Else, his party would have been finished," Tejashwi told reporters.
"We don't want an inefficient government. The retirement age is 60 years. Do you want a 75-year-old Chief Minister?... Now the time has come; we have to take Bihar forward with a new vehicle, not with a khataara gaadi," Yadav said.
Further taking a jibe at Nitish Kumar’s age, Tejaswi called him "tired and retired", saying that he does not even remember the names of his two deputies.
"Our government will come in 2025. We don't want a retired and tired Chief Minister. If you ask Nitish Kumar to name the ministers of his department, he will not be able to tell. Nitish Kumar will not even be able to tell the names of his two Deputy Chief Ministers," Tejashwi added.
Earlier, participating in the motion of thanks to the governor’s address, Tejaswi Yadav, referring to his father’s era, said that Bihar had a ‘powerful government’ before 2005, calling the present government ‘defunct’.
Hitting back on Tejaswi, Nitish in the assembly said that he had elevated Lalu Prasad Yadav to power. “What was there in Bihar earlier? It was me who made your father what he became. Even the people from your caste were asking me why I was doing this, but I still supported him," Nitish said as he lashed out at Tejaswi.
